Stop Chasing That Social High
For my final project in "Visual Communication" we were assigned a social issue and instructed to create a poster to represent the issue, almost as a sort of PSA. I was assigned Social Media Addiction, and the image of a spoon and a lighter came to mind because of the "addiction" aspect. The concept for my poster came pretty much fully formed and I thought about having the social icons be "burning" in the spoon from the lighter to symbolize the similarities between drug addiction and social media addiction. This concept was enforced by research I did which uncovered the study that social notifications release dopamine in the brain, the same chemical released when gambling, having sex, or doing drugs. I stuck with a yellow color scheme to coordinate with the flame color. The photo I used is of me, shot by my roommate.
